About Us

Empowering Young People. Nurturing Potential. Building Stronger Communities.

Maisha Yangu Organization (MYO) is a community-based organization in Kawangware, Nairobi, dedicated to empowering children and young people through education, mentorship, talent development and community-based programs. We create safe and supportive spaces where young people can learn, discover their potential and build the confidence and skills they need for the future.

Our Journey

From a simple idea to a lasting impact

When It Began

A vision to create a safe space for young people

Maisha Yangu Organization (MYO) was founded in 2020 by Buken Onyango and Merline Ndolo. The organization grew from their desire to create a safe and supportive space where children could express themselves freely, explore their creativity and feel valued and cared for.

As they worked with young people, they saw the importance of supporting not only their creativity but also their learning, personal growth and overall development. This vision became the foundation of MYO’s work: walking alongside children and young people, nurturing their potential and creating opportunities for them to shape their futures.

Growth

From a safe space to a growing community program

As MYO grew, we realised that children needed more than a place to express themselves. Education became an important part of our work, leading to the launch of the After school support. Over time, we expanded into a range of programs supporting children’s academic, personal and social development.

Leadership Message

A word from our leadership

Learning together at the MYO centre

Maisha Yangu Organization was born from a simple belief: meaningful change begins when we choose to walk alongside people, not simply work around them.

Kawangware is more than the place where we run our programs β€” it is the community we know, the people we learn from, and the place we call home. Every day, we see the potential in children and young people, even when circumstances make that potential difficult to see.

Our role is to create spaces where that potential can grow: where a child can receive support with their education, find someone who will listen, discover a talent, build confidence, or simply have a safe place to belong.

We do not believe we can solve every challenge. But we believe in showing up consistently, listening carefully, working together, and doing what we can with the resources we have.

As we look ahead, our commitment remains the same β€” to walk alongside children, young people, families, and the wider Kawangware community, creating opportunities for people to learn, grow, and believe in what is possible.
